The Naruto anime is filled with awesome characters and intense battles each ninja has special skills, like ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu. But there’s one super powerful technique called Sage Mode which is like absorbing nature’s power Only a few characters in the anime can do it. Sage Mode boosts a ninja’s strength, speed, toughness, and energy. Sage Mode works by connecting a ninja’s chakra with nature’s energy. This connection helps them borrow power from nature to make themselves stronger. Only a handful of ninjas have mastered this tricky skill So let’s begin and understand how the Sage Mode technique works and who has the strongest Sage Mode techniques
What is Sage Mode
Sage Mode is a powerful technique in the Naruto anime. Users of this technique can absorb natural energy, granting them immense power in terms of speed, strength, durability, and sensory skills. Only certain shinobi can use Sage Mode, as they need a suitable body to absorb energy from nature. There are only a few shinobi who have been capable of achieving Sage Mode, such as Hashirama, Jiraiya, Minato, Naruto, Kabuto, and Mitsuki. Their demise is imminent if a shinobi does not have a suitable body for learning Sage Mode. If a shinobi doesn’t have the right body or skills for Sage Mode, they’re in big trouble.
How Sage Mode Works
Sage Mode is a technique that absorbs energy from nature. After mastering Sage Mode, users gain immense power, including speed, durability, strength, and the ability to sense attacks without seeing them. However, there are risks involved in learning Sage Mode. If a user is unable to master it, they may turn into stone (for Toad Sage Mode) or be killed by a white snake (for Snake Sage Mode).
How to Learn Sage Mode
In the anime, there are only two places where a shinobi can learn Sage Mode Mount Myōboku with the toads and Ryūchi Cave with the snakes. At Mount Myōboku, Sage Mode is taught by toads who use special Toad oil. If a user fails to learn Toad Sage Mode, they instantly turn into stone. At Ryūchi Cave, Sage Mode is taught by a giant white snake. It bites the user and injects natural energy. If the user survives the snake’s bite, they become capable of using Snake Sage Mode. However, if they don’t survive, they meet their end. In the anime, Hagoromo, Jiraiya, Minato, and Naruto learn Sage Mode at Mount Myōboku, while Kabuto learns it at Ryūchi Cave. (Orochimaru discovers Ryūchi Cave, but his body cannot learn Sage Mode.)

User Of ToadSage Mode
In the Naruto anime, we’ve seen many shinobi who can use Sage Mode, and their fight scenes are next-level. So, let’s break down who the most powerful user of Sage Mode is.
- Hagoromo: Hagoromo, the legendary figure in Naruto, learned Sage Mode from Gamamaru, the wise toad sage. He also wielded the Six Paths power, making him incredibly powerful. Although the anime didn’t explicitly show Hagoromo using Sage Mode, his mastery of natural energy suggests he could have.
- Jiraya: Jiraiya was a famous ninja from the Leaf Village, known as one of the legendary Sannin. He trained many powerful shinobi, mastering lots of jutsus and techniques, including Sage Mode. Although he couldn’t perfect Sage Mode, he was still strong enough to defeat many tough opponents, like the Six Paths of Pain.
- Minato Namikaze: Minato Namikaze, a student of Jiraiya and the Fourth Hokage of the Leaf Village, achieved Sage Mode. However, we only saw his use of Sage Mode during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Surprisingly, Minato never used Sage Mode while alive because he could defeat his enemies without relying on it.
- Naruto Uzumaki: Naruto Uzumaki is a ninja from the Leaf Village. He’s Minato’s son and learned a lot from Jiraiya. Naruto also knows Sage Mode, which he learned after Jiraiya died. With Sage Mode, he beat all six Pains. In the anime, he’s good at using Toad Sage Mode. Plus, he’s great at combining Sage Mode with other strong moves like Tailed Beast Mode, Shadow Clone Jutsu, and Rasengan.
The Snake Sage Mode
In the anime, only two people can achieve Snake Sage Mode: Kabuto and Mitsuki. Originally, Orochimaru discovered the place where Sage Mode training took place, guided by a white snake. However, Orochimaru’s body couldn’t handle learning Sage Mode. After Orochimaru’s death, Kabuto Mixed all of Orochimaru’s techniques and jutsu into his own body, making him capable of learning Snake Sage Mode. Snake Sage Mode is learned in Ryūchi Cave, where a giant snake bites the user and injects natural power into them. If the user fails to achieve Sage Mode powers, the giant snake instantly kills them. The second person to achieve Snake Sage Mode was Mitsuki. He didn’t learn Sage Mode in Ryūchi Cave. Instead, his Sage Mode was developed by Orochimaru through experiments on himself and Hashirama’s cells.
Hashirama Sage mode
Hashirma Senju: Hashirama was one of the strongest ninjas of his time, earning him the title “God of Shinobi.” He mastered all jutsu and skills, including Sage Mode. It’s unclear which Sage Mode he used or where he learned it. However, his Sage Mode was the most powerful in the Naruto series. With his Sage Mode, Hashirama could summon giant wooden structures and use techniques like the “True Several Thousand Hands.” This power helped him defeat both Madara and the Nine-Tails at the same time.
Conclusion
Overall, Sage Mode is one of the most powerful techniques in the Naruto universe, but only a few people can perform and achieve it. It requires immense power of chakra and control over one’s chakra. Hashirama’s Sage Mode is powerful, but little is known about where he learned it and what types of sage jutsu he used. There’s a theory that Uchiha clan members can never learn Sage Mode because they possess the Sharingan. It’s believed that the Sharingan causes chakra-draining issues, making it difficult for them to master Sage Mode. Another theory suggests that Uchiha members simply never sought to learn Sage Mode because they believed the Sharingan was already the most powerful tool.
Many theories about Sage Mode are available on the internet, and you can also check out those theories.
